Settling our Clan Name and Commander Selection Process

Dear MacDuffee Clan Society Members,

The enclosed Official Announcement by the Council of Presidents (Presidents of all currently existing Societies worldwide) is the launch of the process to first Settle the Name of the Clan and to then identify a qualified Commander Candidate to present to the Lord Lyon. Our former Commander stepped down in 2021. The Lord Lyon will determine if the candidate put forth is approved. All of us with an eligible surname of the Clan have the opportunity to participate in both of these extremely important decisions.

To best understand the process and your possible role please take the time to read the documents (clannameandcommandersearch.com) on the Website noted in the Official Announcement. You should also review the Proper Use of a Crest document which is educational and already on our Clan Society website.

Please note that membership in a Society is not a requirement to participate. A participant may be any person of the Name worldwide. You may want to encourage others to participate and perhaps consider joining the Society.

We have exciting tasks in front of us that will affect the Clan for decades.

01 AUG 2025 Update

Thank you to all the eligable Clan members worldwide who participated in Round 2 for settling our Clan name. The Council chose to welcome those eligible Clan members who did not participate in Round 1 to also submit their preferences in Round 2 for maximum input by the Clan. June 30 was the deadlines for Round 2. The result has been audited and is pending review and approval of the process by the Court of the Lord Lyon. The Clan name is a decision soly determined by Clan members worldwide. Assuming we will receive a positive response from the Court for settling our Clan name, the Council of Presidents will then announce the process for identifying a qualified Clan Commander candidate for submission to the Court for approval by the Lord Lyon.

Round 2 Decision Now Open for Settling our Clan Name The Opportunity to submit your preference for settling our Clan name is now open effective May1st until June 30th, 2025. Please click the link https://www.clannameandcommandersearch.com/. Click on Settling the Name at the top. There is great background and research information available for your review. Please take a moment to read the material. The decision is a Yes or No for acceptance of the Council recommendation to use MacDubhsith as our Clan name.

Scroll down to Forms 1 and 2. Form 1 is for individuals that participated in Round 1 to submit their input for Round 2. Click on Form 1 and click on "enable edit" at the top. Complete the form and save as Round 2 Submission with (Your Name). Send your Round 2 preference Form 1 to clannameandcommandersearch@mail.com. Once received and verified you will receive an acknowledgment that your input has been accepted. If you did not participate in Round 1 then you will need to use Form 2 to submit your preference to determine eligibility. If you are deemed eligible, with an acceptable surname, you will be notified that your input has been accepted.
It is hoped that following a summary of input and audit that we will have final results by mid-July.
